From EcoMobility to Future Mobility

Session Description
The word EcoMobility was first coined by Konrad Otto-Zimmermann, Secretary General of International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) and of the Global Alliance for EcoMobility, in February 2007. EcoMobility refers to sustainable, environmentally-friendly and socially inclusive local mobility system to promote quality of life improvement, increasing mobility options, social integration, including non-motorized means of transport sch as walking, cycling, and PM, public transportation, eco-friendly electric means of transport, and connection among them (ICLEI, 2013). And Future Mobility refers to different services contributing to increasing human mobility through fusion of technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution. This session introduces the concept of EcoMobility and its application in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, and to explore the future direction of the Future Mobility services with UN Habitat.

Reacting to Climate

Change through ICT Technologies

Session Description
Around the world, ICT has been already used as a main tool to observe environment in general and partial factors of environment, monitor climate, and estimate climate change. In electricity sector, sensors in electricity supply chain can increase efficiency in monitoring electricity supply and reduce electricity leakage. In transportation sector, the introduction of smart transportation system to manage complicated truck-based logistics can reduce 1.52 billion tons of greenhouse gas emission per year around the globe. In building sector, the advanced technologies will enable monitoring lighting, heating and ventilating systems. The introduction of smart building systems around the world will reduce 1.68 billion tons of greenhouse gas emission per year. On the other hand, contemporary climate catastrophe forecast, monitoring and early warning system based on ICT utilization is necessary for the sake of saving human lives, and it helps to effectively react to natural disasters by monitoring and remote sensing them, such as earthquake and tsunami. This session aims to cover future direction to react the negative effects of the deteriorating climate changes and to reduce greenhouse gas emission using ICT with regard to climate crisis at the scope of inclusive city and sharing city, as well as the case study for developing countries.
